The project "Echoes" involves developing a horror game using Unreal Engine 5 centered around audio cues as its main gameplay mechanism. It aims to enhance horror and immersive experiences by presenting difficult obstacles with limited player controls. The game challenges players by placing them in realistic scenarios where they lack full control, forcing them to rely on survival instincts to navigate dangerous environments. "Echoes" aims to manipulate human emotions through audio and environment design, offering a variety of difficulty level that contrasts with conventional horror game design.

To deliver an immersive auditory experience of a horror game through the main focal point of soundwaves
To deprive the player of resources available to intensify the emotional distress and worry during gameplay
To improve the players’ situational awareness and listening skills through the created necessity of recognizing audio cues

Project strengths

The game provides an immersive horror experience by using ambient background music and various soundtracks to set the atmosphere for the player.
The user interface designs enhance immersion by offering a 3-dimensional movement perspective, creating a sense of engagement through user interaction.
The game features a vision switcher mechanic that lets players toggle between observation, thermal, and night vision modes to navigate the environment, with the trade-off of draining battery resources.
